If you are finding it difficult to get around your home because of an injury or a disability, you may be able to get assistance with essential modifications to help you remain in your home. These modifications will be carried out at no cost to the tenant.
Housing Plus will modify its properties to suit people with an injury or a disability only if it is economically viable to do so. If it is not economically viable for the existing home to be modified, tenants may be transferred to a more suitable property. Our Property Services Team maintains a register of properties that have already been modified and properties that can be suitably modified to suit a tenant’s needs.
Sometimes, unless additional funding can be sourced, a request for extensive modifications may not be affordable. If this is the case, Housing Plus will work closely and flexibly with the tenant to achieve the best outcome.
An important factor in the decision to modify a home is for the tenant to demonstrate they are able to sustain a successful tenancy. The tenant must be able to: look after the property; live independently with, or without support; and live in the property on an ongoing basis.
Where the applicant needs support, they must show they have access to appropriate support services. Housing Plus does not directly provide health-related support services; however, our employees will make referrals to other agencies to enable tenants to access the support they need.
